On Saturday, Jim and I took the train to Rome to visit our friends Rosella and Marco. I met Rosella through (NY Times bestselling author and friend)
Cindy Gerard. Ro had written a letter to her, and when we took a "girl trip" to Italy she gave us a royal tour of Rome. (1 1/2 years later Rosella joined six of us on another "girl trip" to Spain. But that's another story...)

Back to yesterday. Rosella and Marco took us home for lunch. Their son Ottavio (soon-to-be Dr. Ottavio Re) joined us.
We even called Cindy back in Iowa

.
I LOVE ITALIAN LUNCHES. After three kinds of wine and lemoncello soaked baba (cake) - the food was good too - we headed out to see some sights.

Jim and Marco are both SCUBA divers so they had plenty to talk about. We even attended a symposium on archaeological diving. (Marco does this parttime for the Italian government - how cool!) Rosella and I had (oh, yes, HAD) to visit Cartier where she had a watch battery changed and I drooled over (as our daughter, Cat, likes to say of me) bright, shiny things. And, yes, we saw the Coliseum, the Forum, the place where Julius Caesar was stabbed, the Pantheon and other notable places - and next time we visit Rome we will take more "touristy" photos - but this time I chose to tell you about how we enjoyed the company of good friends.

Grazie, Susan
Ciao, Susan and Jim. I am soooo envious of your visit with Rossella and Marco! but I'm so glad you took the time to call me from Rome to say hello so we could laugh together.

It looks like you guys are having an absolute blast. I can't wait to be there and see it all for myself.

Jon
It looks like you guys belong there. With Dad's love of motorcycles, maybe you both could try the Vespa???
ReplyDeleteYou all look great! Like your other readers, I am jealous. You are obviously enjoying the scenery & weather. I could taste the food vicariously and gained a bunch of virtual pounds. Guess I'll have to play golf! Continue having fun.
