"...this is how Italy struck the fancy of the men of the 16th century. She was feminine and they were virile, but she could teach them and they could learn. She gave them pleasure; they brought force"
J. A. Saymonds
Knockers, knackers, knickers - there's always some small (or voluptuous) detail to catch your eye around here. Take Italian knockers.

There's no reason to bruise your knuckles with these brass beauties decorating the front doors.

The truly interesting one's are quite old.

I've checked hardware stores and few have anything like them.
So, if knockers interest you, enjoy these few
...or come to Italy and see them for yourselves.
Living in Spoleto and therefore being tucked away in the center of Italy, I can tell you its quite difficult to find anything other than Italian restaurants. True, there is one pizza place (owned by Middle-Easterners) that serves lamb kabobs, but that is the extent of "foreign food" here. Okay, we did see a McDonald's (you know, that fine Scottish restaurant with fries to die for) on our way to Florence. While in that great city we stumbled upon a Xmas market - half of which was Austrian.
Hence, the photo of knackers, which led to knockwurst and sauerkraut sandwiches for dinner that night.
As for the knickers, what can I possibly add to the photo below? The Italians love a fine body. (Did I mention my friend David?...oh, yes, several times, I think.) So, aside from housing the Pope, Italy is world famous for it's high fashion, expensive clothing and beautiful bodies.
Still knocking around Italy,
Susan (and her body double)
p.s. One more set of knockers
and, as Seinfeld fans will appreciate,
"they're spectacular."

Susan, you kill me! What a fun post. Thanks for making me smile.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great post. I wonder if the Italians appreciate the country like you American transplants do?? Surely not!!
